TRAINING

We are a breeding farm for Arabian and Arabian cross horses and it’s our team of horse trainers that takes these young horses all the way through, to becoming all around safe rides for both the very experienced equestrian, to the first time horse buyer. This team is comprised of 8 women who collectively have years of experience and competition in 50 to 100 mile Endurance races. Brenda Harrison, who leads this team of horse trainers, has over 50 years of horsemanship, experience and knowledge.

We consider ourselves horse trainers instead of horse breakers; if your horse is so opposed to a human relationship, perhaps a horse breaker is what you are looking for. However, any horse that comes to us for training will most likely respond to our gentle approach, especially the Arabian horse that does not respond well to a harsh discipline, we have found great success working to win their trust.

When you call us and we meet your horse, we will assign 1 of the 8 trainers that has skills best suited to that particular horse, and she will work 5 days per week, giving continuous exposure of the horse to that 1 individual, until a relationship is established. This technique is all inclusive, whether the horse has never even had a halter on, all the way though providing a refresher course for a seasoned veteran. The breed of your horse is not a deciding factor for whether we can be helpful to you, we will work with any breed of horse.

Before we start, you need to know how much this is all going to cost and of course this will all depend on how long we have your horse at our farm. $1,400 per month is all inclusive for boarding and feeding your horse, as well as a 5 day a week training regime. This will involve the owner riding with the assigned trainer when the time comes and your horse is ready to begin the transition back to you. For an experienced horse just needing to be refreshed, you should probably allow for 2 months of training.

There are additional related costs that you will need to be aware of, including if your horse requires specialty feeds, this will need to be provided by you the owner. If your horse requires farrier work, for which could include being shod, 3rd Day has two skilled Farriers on staff that could provide you with this service for an additional charge. We are also able to pick up and deliver your horse for a fee.

CAMPAIGNING

For those of you that would like to continue with us in Endurance training, including going to your first race or races, we can provide this service as well as trailering to and from the race. This is a year-round offer as we have farms both in Hockley Valley, Ontario as well as Atlanta, Texas! As the summer season in Ontario winds down, we take our endurance horses south to compete from November through April in Texas and surrounding states. The monthly fee in Texas for board and training is $1,400 a month in US dollars. If you aren’t able to commit to being in the USA personally for that long we can keep your horse there, train them, and you can come as it works for your schedule. If you would like for us to campaign your horse in Endurance, we can easily accommodate you.

In summation, it is our business to learn your horse and its limits.  Whether they be an arena only horse or a 100 mile cross county competitive racer, it is our hearts desire to give you everything your horse is capable of doing. We work with riders of all age groups, currently training both a 9 year old and a 70 year old for competition in Endurance. Every horse and every rider have areas of strengths and weaknesses, it is our job to not only assess those areas, but with patience and persistence, bring both horse and rider to their full potential.

We offer service to train horses FEI ready for competition, the highest level of the sport of Endurance Racing. We will take your horse at the skill and fitness level they are currently at and condition them for the competition you have in mind. You may be starting from a green broke horse desiring to begin an endurance career or have goals to reach 100 miles at speed and we can get you there. We can train your horse for you, or with you, and in the end, ride alongside you at your endurance event.

Campaigning your horse in the sport of Endurance, whether it be at a limited distance 25-mile ride, or in a 100-mile race, is an excellent way to raise the value and experience of your beloved partner. You may simply be looking for more exposure for your horse, or in the process of selling one, and having one of our experienced riders take your horse “the distance” will enhance your goals significantly.
